Dictionary Definitions: tBlog Basics - B

The New Stone Soup reviewed the general tBlog system and identified several key terms and pages that tBloggers need to navigate both the virtual tBlog world and the World Wide Web. Here is our limited-but always growing-collection of basic definitions. Where images or further bits of information are in order, we've made special links available that will help you travel between definitions, or will take you directly to nifty, helpful pictures. Can't find your definition? Let us know! Still confused? Give us a clue and we'll sniff out the solution.

BLOG DESCRIPTION – Your Blog Description is a short bit of information—one or two sentences—you provide to explain the focus of your Blog Page . To add or edit your Blog Description, follow these steps: first, click the My Blog link on the tBlog Control Panel; second, click the Blog Settings link (not the My Settings link); third, add, edit or erase your information in the Blog Description section; finally, click the tBlog “change settings” button at the bottom.

One last note about your Blog Description: The information you provide here should be short and sweet, and most importantly it should accurately describe the content of your Blog Page. Your Blog Description is written into the Meta Information of your blog so Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo can send Internet surfers to your Blog Page.

BLOG LOCATION –

BLOG NAME – Your Blog Name is the name of your blog. No joke. Just remember that Blog Name is different than Blog Description , Blog Location and Username, and you’ll do just fine. For those of you interested in making changes to your blog, specifically your banners and headers, these differences can be useful to know.

BLOG PAGE – A Blog Page is a page of your blog displayed for readers. Every tBlog with a single article Post or more has at least two different Blog Pages: a Blog Page for the blog’s Home , and a Blog Page for article posts. Readers access your Home Page through various links throughout tBlog (from My Profile links, tBlurt links, Hot Blog links and more), links on other blogs, and links from Search Engines. Readers access your post pages directly from links in tBlog’s recent post section, by clicking on the comments link at the bottom of posts on your Home Page, or through links provided by Search Engines.

BLOG SETTINGS – Your Blog Settings include the following bits and pieces of information: Blog Name, Blog Description , disable comments, who can comment, how many blogs (posts) per Blog Page, and the time zone where you’re located.

** You can edit your Blog Settings using these steps: First, on the Control Panel, click My Blog; then click Blog Settings.

** Note: Blog Settings is very different than My Settings.

BLOG URL (Blog Location) – A Blog URL (or Blog Uniform Resource Locator) is the address where all information for a specific Blog Page is stored. Every web page has its own URL. Your Home Page has a URL. Each of your posts has its own URL. Every link on the WWW takes you to a different URL. Your Blog URL is your Home. When you add links to a Blog Page, you are adding URLs.

BOOKMARKS – As with any Internet browser, Bookmarks are a way for you to remember the web pages you like, and provide you with an easy way to return to them. tBlog Bookmarks specifically store your favorite tBlogs. To access your Bookmarks, use the link on your Control Panel. Once you’ve accessed your Bookmarks, you can go directly to your favorite tBlogs, or you can add new favorites by searching for your favorite tBlog user (remember: you’ll need to search for tBloggers by Username, rather than by Blog Name).
