Changing the Background of tBlog's Default Template
Let's start with one of the easiest and play with the background for tBlog's Default template. We've set up a practice blog using Mr. Default and changed both the BODY background and the CENTER COLUMN background.
To see the results, check out Soup's Default Template .
Here's how we did it:
1. Choosing the background style: You can choose a color, or you can use an image to wallpaper the background of your blog. More so than many of the other tBlog templates, the Default template is set up to make wallpapering an easy option.

Find an image that you've saved to your computer, or download an image from the Web, and then upload your image to MY IMAGES. We uploaded two different images, and in a moment you'll see why. Here's a screenshot of the two uploaded images resting nicely in their MY IMAGES home.
TMAIL QUESTION OF THE DAY Q: Hey Stone Soup: Why can't I take screenshots of nifty stuff? A: You can SO take your own screenshots. Try it and see . |
2. Changing the BODY background: You'll need to navigate your way to your editing room:
** My Blog --> My Template --> Edit My Colors **
You'll find many different options, but right now you're looking for PAGE BODY --> BACKGROUND or BACKGROUND-IMAGE.
If you only want to change the background COLOR, go to the BACKGROUND option and substitute tBlog's default color (#eeeeee - a variaton on the color white) with another HEX code, or simply write in the name of the color you want.

If, on the other hand, you're interested in adding wallpaper, look at the BACKGROUND-IMAGE option. If you've successfully uploaded your images, then the drop-down menu will provide you with the links to your wallpaper choice. Make the change.

At the bottom of the page, you will have the option to save your changes under a new name. Pick something you'll remember and then click MAKE CHANGES!
3. Go ahead and launch your blog: You should have a nice new background: either a new color or new wallpaper. You're done! But, maybe you're wondering why the center of your blog is still the same, boring white as always. If so, read on:
4. Choosing the CENTER COLUMN style: As you did in Step #1, you will need to either choose a background color, or a new image to use as the wallpaper for your CENTER COLUMN.
5. Changing the CENTER COLUMN background: Return to your editing room:
** My Blog --> My Template --> Edit My Colors **
About halfway down the page, you should find CENTER COLUMN --> BACKGROUND or BACKGROUND-IMAGE. Again, just as you did in Step #2, change the BACKGROUND COLOR by going to the BACKGROUND option and substituting tBlog's default color (#ffffff - pure white) with another HEX code, or simply write in the name of the color you want.

If, on the other hand, you're interested in adding wallpaper, look at the BACKGROUND-IMAGE option. If you've successfully uploaded your images (see above), then the drop-down menu will provide you with the links to your wallpaper choice. Make the change.
At the bottom of the page, you will have the option to save your changes under a new name. Pick something you'll remember and then click MAKE CHANGES!
6. Launch that Blog!
If you've sneaked a peek at Soup's Default Template, you'll notice that our BODY background wallpaper is read left to right while our CENTER COLUMN wallpaper is read right to left. We used these mirrored images to make each image more easily identified. Also note that this wallpapering scheme is pretty intense, and makes reading the posts difficult. Keep this in mind when choosing your own background styles.
Notes:
** We designed the two wallpaper images ourselves using free Paint.net software. Not only is the software free, and not only are the software providers the most generous and helpful people you'll find anywhere on the web, but the software is really pretty excellent. If you don't have the money to fork over for Photoshop, download Paint.net for free. Check out our post, Paint a Blog Design to learn more about the nice paint people and where to find them.
** Confused about some of the terms we've used? Take a look through our modest but right-minded attempt at a tBlog Dictionary. Crawl over to the sidebar on the right and take a look. No. Your other right, dummy. ---------->
